Its responsibilities include controlling and filling the documentation linked to the purchase and release of goods, as well as producing monthly and annual reports for the administration.

The Communication Management is an extension project, coordinated by Prof.  Zélia Inês Portela Lobato, to plan communication in the School of Veterinary Medicine, disseminate information, foster the visibility of the institution among its various audiences,  answer inquiries by the press and creation and maintenance of various means of internal and external communication. Its main goal is to communicate the events and production of the School to the community.
Responsible for all the communication within the institution, such as writing and publication of news about events and research; answering inquiries from the media;  updating the site;  designing folders, posters, graphs and visual identity;  clipping institutional information;  preparing internal and external campaigns; preparing surveys, photos and image bank,  newsletters and other activities.
The School teacher, student or employee interested in suggesting themes for publication or in requesting any kind of service may contact the Communication Management personally, by e-mail or telephone.

This sector is responsible for the storage, control, maintenance and distribution of various audiovisual devices used in the classes, as well as in other events in the Unit.
Main activities:
Check if the audiovisual devices – projectors, computers, overhead projectors, slides projectors, televisions, DVDs, etc. are functioning. Provide maintenance whenever necessary; provide the materials requested by the teachers in classes or other events.

The Waste Management and Hygiene  Department coordinates, implements and supervises the Waste Management Plan of the School of Veterinary Medicine, as well as its contracts with outsourced cleaning companies. Attributions and competences:

  • Regular distribution of boxes of sharp-edged materials, containers for repackaging of chemical waste for  laboratories;
  • Collecting chemical waste and forwarding it to intermediary shelter. Weighing  chemical waste; listing all chemical waste generated and entering in databank.
  • Writing letters, documents, reports, technical opinions.
  • Supervising and providing continuous guidance on biological and infectious, chemical, radioactive, common and sharp-edged waste and sorting-at-source;
  • Request regular evaluation of the type of waste and form of packing and disposal;
  • Identification and distribution of waste beans on premises;
  • Regular meetings in the Division of Environmental Management and Waste Program;
  • Regular meetings in the Division of Contracts/DLO to discuss contracts and issues;
  • Supervision of cleaning employees of the outsourced company, providing guidance, regular meetings and monitoring of activities, check frequency and use of materials;
  • Supervision and monitoring of activities, frequency, use of materials and supervision of contract with outsourced company that feeds the animals, involving regular meetings;
  • Receive and check cleaning materials;
  • Daily notification of contracts, absences and issues involving cleaning staff and outsourced team to the inspection sector;
  • Inspection and monitoring of sanitary conditions and cleaning of workshops and animal bays around the School and the Veterinary Hospital, in order to verify the presence of vectors (dengue mosquitoes and leishmaniosis, rodents and others).
  • Lectures in undergraduate and graduate courses at the UFMG and other universities, as well as national events, giving guidance and disseminating the Waste Management approach in Veterinary Medicine.

Meets the computing demands of the School, such as:

  • Installation of  Windows and Linux operational systems (basic);
  • Support to School software (Windows and Linux platforms, such as:  Office or BRoffice, antivirus;
  • Installation of devices with Windows operational systems, such as printers and scanners;
  • Basic maintenance of hardware, such as: installation of network boards, replacement of burnt power sources, memory expansion;
  • Identifying possible causes of problems with equipment;
  • Configuration of protocols for inclusion in local network and long distance computers, according to UFMG standards;
  • Identifying possible problems related to the connectivity of the School network;
  • Monitor IP blockages by UFMG Computer Center (Cecom};
  • Detecting IP addresses used without authorization or knowledge of the laboratory, whenever possible.

Linked to the Personnel Administration Department of UFMG, it has the objective of operationalizing and assuring the application of the rights and responsibilities of active and retired civil servants, as well as pensioners, through norms, planning coordination and supervision of the services provided, seeking to provide quality assistance to the university community and society in general, according to the interests of the School and the Institution. The Personnel Department focuses on humanization, that is, treating people with dignity without loosing its focus and complying to the legislation.

This sector is responsible for electrical and hydraulic maintenance, as well as the buildings of the School. It coordinates the Transport Division, which meets the demands of teachers and students in teaching, research and extension activities of the School.  
Main activities:

  • Initiate service order to meet requests for electrical, hydraulic and building maintenance with the relevant sectors of UFMG.
  • Meet demands for transport for teaching, research and extension outside the School of Veterinary Medicine.

Responsible for carrying out the required activities for the purchase of consumption material, permanent material, equipment and services, following the decisions of the School Management. In order to purchase any good, the interested party must fill out the enclosed forms and send them to the person responsible for the sector.
Main activities:

  • Request quotations from suppliers;
  • Organize and carry out direct purchases for the School;
  • Organize and carry out purchase processes through electronic bidding processes or price records.

Starting on April 15, 2013, all purchase requests must be done through a new purchase system available at Minha UFMG.

Responsible for accounting activities / operations in the School according to the needs of Administration and legal requirements. Accounting classifies, evaluates and makes payments and issues reports on the financial transactions of the School.
